The Power of An Idea
Just want to share to business stories that are interesting…at least I think.
During World War 2 a pilot was having plane trouble while flying. He needed to make an emergency landing but was over the sea and had only one option which was too land on an aircraft carrier. It took roughly 50 people to help make this plane land which was no small task especially with the busyness of an aircraft carrier during these times. After landing the pilot said he essentially “rented” the aircraft carrier to land his plane. The same pilot then had an idea. If he in a sense “rented” the aircraft wouldn’t people at times want/need to “rent” a car. Enterprise Rent-a-Car was born.
Frederick W. Smith enrolled in Yale to study economics. In one of his classes the assignment was to write a paper about a business idea that was logical and realistic in the scope of the world. His idea was to create a business that could ship packages across the country in a couple of days as efficiently as possible. He received a C on the paper because it was deemed impossible. 10 years later he created Fed Ex. He has since been CEO of the year numerous times.
That is the power of an idea….and anything is possible
