Monopoly….Just A Game?
One of the most popular games of our time can actually teach us everything we need to know about life and business. Here is the quick breakdown I have come up with.
Passing Go: We know that if we continue to move forward and keep up with the daily grind will have a guarantee reward that is consistent. That is the steady paycheck.
Buying Property: We pick and choose things to buy based on price, deal and return on investment. Also, location is key.
Free Parking: The only spot on the board that does not require an action almost the “safe zone” in monopoly. We know that nothing is free but when it is we really do appreciate it
Community Chest/Chance Cards: We have little events in our lives that can be positive or negative but we embrace them or deal with them and continue on for the long run.
Going to Jail: We don’t want to be there. When we go to jail we can’t collect money, we lose our spot in our grind and our work up to that point is now wasted. We know to stay out of trouble
Prices of Properties: We know that the higher we pay for something the higher value it is and the higher the potential return on it
Getting a Monopoly of properties: The power of leverage in anything. Pooling resources and making money/resources multiply with the more you have. Make you way more money than the paycheck (passing go) and way faster.
Buying Houses and Hotels: The more prestigious the location of your property the higher the upkeep and cost to build on it. Oh and the repairs……the more you have the more you pay.
The Actual Game Pieces(Car, Top Hat, Battleship, etc.): The game pieces represent where your true passion and happiness comes from and the image you want to portray in this life. Are you a sharp looking business man (top hat). Or are you a materialistic in your ways (car). Or do you just enjoy the simple things in life and like to create art (thimble). Finally, are you wanting the hard working “man” or strong “women” image of the battleship that represents a bold and respected career/passion such as the armed forces, fire fighter or police officer.
A simple game but a lot of lessons to learn…Monopoly is the real game of “life”
